.:Stelvei's Crystal Monday: Moonstone:.

The Stone of Mystery

History:

Moonstone is a talisman of the inward journey, taking you deep into the self to retrieve what is missing--the parts of your soul that were left behind, or forgotten--then brought back into light.

Since the earliest of times, Moonstone has been a distinct connection to the magic of the moon. It is an amulet of protection for travelers, a gift of lovers for passion, a channel for prophecy, and a path to wisdom. Moonstone calms and encourages, teaching us the natural rhythms of life.

The stone has been used in Roman jewelry for nearly two thousand years, and even longer in the Orient. Moonstone is quite sacred in India with a special significance to lovers, and is a traditional wedding gift there. In the Art Nouveau Period, Moonstone was a very popular choice for jewelers, and in Europe it was believed to appease estranged lovers and even cure sleeplessness.

Moonstone occurs in many shades of peach, blue, grey, white and Rainbow Moonstone--a nice prismatic variety:

Blue (Cat's Eye) Moonstone promotes clarity of the mind and inner vision. It keeps one focused while in a meditative or altered state of awareness.

Grey Moonstone is a stone of perceiving beyond the veil--useful to the clairvoyant and shaman, and moving one to unseen realms. It is rightly called the "New Moon Stone" as it carries the mysteries and powers of the new moon.

White Moonstone carries the energies of the new moon at the height of its power. It stimulates psychic perception, vision and dream work. It can magnify your emotions, bringing out the kundalini energies in women and emotional balance in men. It can drive away nightmares or insomnia.

Peach or Yellow Moonstone supports the heart and stimulates the mind, soothing worry or anxiety. It brings out the best of people. It has a loving energy which promotes the Divine in all situations. It is also an emotional support for intuitive or sensitive children.

Rainbow Moonstone acts as prism, diffusing energy throughout one's aura. It provides psychic protection, clearing the mind and senses. It can aid with lucid dreaming and calmer sleeps.

Purposes:

Moonstone is legendary and known as the Traveler's Stone. It is quite protective of those who travel by night or upon the water when the moon is shining. Frequent travelers should keep on in the glove compartment for safe night travels and as a protection against road rage.

Moonstone also opens the heart to nurturing qualities and assists in accepting love. It is great for first or new love, and is a comforting talisman if love must be kept a secret. It is also believed to reunite loved ones who had parted in anger.

It stimulates the kundalini energy, making it a stone of love and eroticism. It is the ultimate fertility crystal. A Moonstone necklace worn during sex at the full moon harmonizes the body in the natural lunar cycle.

Moonstone aids dancers and artists in their self-expression. It inspires the heart and feeling in executives, and helps educators in sharing activities. Moonstone promotes self-acceptance in waiters/waitresses, and stimulates sensitivity in psychologists and secretaries. Peach Moonstone is particularly consoling to anyone who feels helpless because of weight problems. It should be worn to encourage you to love and value yourself for who you are--as is--and to assist in separating food from emotional needs.

Physical Healing:

Moonstone helps in attuning to the normal rhythms of the biological forces of your body and utilizing natural energy cycles. It powerfully effects the female reproductive system as it enhances fertility and promoting ease in pregnancy and childbirth. Moonstone helps to reduce menstrual problems and change of life. It balances the hormonal system and eliminates fluid retention.

Moonstone acts as a growth stone for children and teenagers, and has thought to slow the degeneration of the elderly. It can also reduce the degenerative conditions of the skin, hair, eyes, and the fleshy organs of the body. Moonstone is great in treating insomnia and creating beneficial dreams.

Emotional Healing:

Moonstone's energy is quite balancing and healing, assisting in the mastery of emotions by bringing them under control of the Hight Will rather than expressing or repressing them. It has been long been known for its calming and soothing qualities. Moonstone helps identify emotional patterns that are stored in the subconscious, and serves as a guardian to contain explosive passions, and to give confidence and composure. You can place a Moonstone at the centre of the chin (The Moon Centre) to create this balance.

To women, Moonstone reveals their feminine power and abilities of clairvoyance. It gives rise to the kundalini energies within. Moonstone can help men become more in-tune with the feminine aspects of their nature. It stimulates the right side of the brain, encouraging nonlinear thinking and emotional balance. Moonstone is especially calming to children. It helps soothe those away form home at night, drives away nightmares and encourages sleep. It is also known to be used to treat sleep walking.

Chakra Healing:

The white energies in all Moonstones have an association with the Crown Chakra and our spiritual centre. The Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head, and is our gateway to the expanded universe beyond our bodies. It controls how we think, and how we respond to the world around us. It is the creator of our beliefs and the course of our spirituality. When it is in balance, our energies are in balance. We know our place in the universe and see things as they are. We know that setbacks are just a part of life.

Moonstone cleanses and dispels negativity from all the chakras. It provides spiritual nourishment and sustenance to assist one in all changes.

Spiritual Energy:

Moonstone combats materialism and strengthens the faith of religious people in all cultures. It opens the mind to hoping and wishing, inspiration and impulse, serendipity and synchronicity. It brings insight, and keeps you from negatively banishing possibilities. Moonstone also grants intuitive recognition and allows one to absorb that which is needed from the universe and not really what is wanted.

Colour Energy:

Moonstones carry White Colour Energy--the embodiment of cleanliness, purity, unity and innocence. It is the colour of natural cycles, birth and regeneration--the feminine gender manifested as the Goddess in many cultures.

Meditation:

Meditating with Moonstone takes you deep within yourself. Often, it will reveal missing pieces of the puzzle of your life and parts of the soul. It is also great for past-life regression.
